Is your family history rooted in India? Unfortunately, you may have to do a bit of digging because India does not keep or have birth, marriage or death certificates, making your family search more difficult. If you are researching your colonial India ancestors, the best place to start is with church records. This means you may need to find out what church your ancestor's attended.
You may also find helpful information within cemeteries your relative is buried in. One last source of information that may be helpful in your search is to check the Oriental and India Office Collections of the British Library if your ancestor was employed as a civilian in any area of the government. His records will probably be located there.
