Tip of the Week

Online genealogy sites can aid you in your search for relatives from Montana. If you know the county in which they lived you can click on the county search and follow the directions for how to do a surname search. Once you have typed in the surname you should have a list displayed to you. Could you have a relative on that list? You must try to see.

Perhaps you are just wondering what cultures or people make up the Montana population. Will you be surprised at you will learn? Montana became a state on November 8th, 1889 making it the 41st state. Like the other states, Montana was originally inhabited by Indians. Canadian and American fur traders eventually came to the state followed by settlers from the eastern part of the United States wanting to find gold and to mine the land.
